We're coming out of our long Summer (northern hemisphere) hibernation to bring you a new Preview release of Windows Terminal: 1.26! We've been hard at work on the Settings page, workspaces, notifications, and general fit and finish. Lots more community contributions this time around (thank you to all of you!) and many of the bug fixes you see here have been backported to 1.25 and--in some cases--1…
Terminal 1.25 is finally stable! Here are the highlights: A new settings search experience! We have a lot of settings; hopefully this helps you find them. A rich "actions" editor that will let you better customize how you interact with Terminal. Support for the "Kitty" input protocol, for a highly opinionated way to distinguish keyboard keys and how they were pressed. Window persistence with or wi…
While Terminal 1.25 is slowly rolling out (as we get new reliability info, prove it doesn't super-explode, etc.), we've decided to update 1.24 with a couple quick fixes as well to make sure you're not left out in the cold. Changes Panes can no longer be reduced below 2 cells in either direction, to prevent screen corruption (#20564) (thanks zhangxaochen!) We got rid of the "new tab" animation, as…
Since we decided to push Terminal 1.26 out a little bit, please enjoy these bug fixes instead. Bug Fixes Terminal should no longer crash when you drag a small tab into a larger window (which never crashed for some people, and always crashed for others) (#20366) (thanks @yuu61!) Terminal will now make a screen reader-audible announcement when you interact with the expand/collapse option in the Sett…
The stable channel just keeps getting stabler! We decided to push Terminal 1.26 out a little bit, so hopefully this set of fixes helps fill the void where it would be. Bug Fixes Terminal should no longer crash when you drag a small tab into a larger window (which never crashed for some people, and always crashed for others) (#20366) (thanks @yuu61!) Terminal will now make a screen reader-audible a…
This is the fourth servicing release for Terminal! We've fixed a couple of our more annoying issues, and added a new feature thanks to @ltrzesniewski for configuring the new URL warning dialog. These release notes include changes from v1.25.1241.0 so that you don't need to go read those separately. Changes You can now change the behavior of the URL warning dialog with the new safeUriSchemes settin…
Finally! Terminal Stable is getting all of the fun bug fixes that landed in preview over the past couple releases. Changes Terminal will now display a warning dialog if you attempt to open a URL that might harm your computer (as voted by a bunch of security researchers) (#20065) (#20096) ... and you can change its behavior with the new safeUriSchemes setting (JSON safeUriSchemes, array of strings,…
This was a short-term bridge release for Windows Terminal Preview that was intended to test our licensing changes before we rolled them out to stable. Changes We have disabled store licensing checks on startup, which should improve launch performance and reliability and prevent the store from deciding that nobody is allowed to run Terminal (#20163) Bug Fixes Wordwise selection that starts at a wor…
This may be the first time we've released a servicing update for Preview without an associated update to Stable! Well, at any rate, some of these fixes are destined for stable... eventually. Bug Fixes IME composition will no longer blindly overwrite text to the right of the cursor, but "intelligently" push it further to the right to ensure that it stays visible (#20041) (thanks @drvoss!) Terminal…
Ah, a Friday servicing release. That's never backfired before. Changes The "invalid media resource, go get rekt" warning has been toned down (and for now, has been removed entirely in the Stable channel) (#19969) We now support the use of OSC 7 in some circumstances to report the current working directory (#20019) Terminal will once again emit an empty bracketed paste sequence (\e[200~\e[201~) whe…
With this servicing update, Windows Terminal 1.24 has progressed to the "Release Preview" ring! Changes The "invalid media resource, go get rekt" warning has been toned down (and for now, has been removed entirely in the Stable channel) (#19969) Terminal will once again emit an empty bracketed paste sequence (\e[200~\e[201~) when you attempt to paste an image (e.g. into an agentic coding CLI) (#20…
We kept Windows Terminal 1.24 out of the stable channel for an extra release cycle just to make sure it was up to par, and now it is. Welcome to 1.24. 1.24 brings a handful of new features and a load of bug fixes, including: Command Palette now searches simultaneously in English and your display language (unless that language is English). There is a new page in Settings where you can see and contr…
Windows Terminal 1.25 is here, with a bunch of new features in tow! It sports a new search experience inside the Settings page, the ability to edit actions, command palette entries and key bindings with a rich editor--rather than just their key bindings--support for Kitty's keyboard protocol and two completely new community translations! NoteThis release has been somewhat slow to roll out via the…
